It’s been an extra emotional time in Port Charles as everyone comes to terms with Sam’s death, and the General Hospital cast has shared their thoughts on several scenes.
Since Sam’s (ex-Kelly Monaco) death on October 30, several characters have endured learning the news and facing life without the essential character. From Alexis’ (Nancy Lee Grahn) breakdown to Jason (Steve Burton) and Spinelli’s (Bradford Anderson) heartwarming hug, the actors had as many feelings about the scenes as their characters did.
On October 31, Grahn warned viewers about the incoming scenes on X (formerly Twitter), writing, “As hard as it may be for #gh viewers to watch today’s episodes and the episodes to follow, it was equally as hard for me and my casemates to play. Playing Kelly Monaco’s mom has been effortless and the love is real.”
Grahn posted a shorter version of the sentiment on Instagram, adding a candid of her, Monaco, Kate Mansi (Kristina), and Kristen Vaganos (Molly) on the GH set.
Dominic Zamprogna (Dante) made a rare appearance on his Instagram with a fall family photo posted on November 4.
“Just some love. Hope everyone’s going ok,” the actor wrote, finishing with a peace sign emoji.
It’s unknown whether he shared it because of the devastating storyline or due to the impending United States election, but viewers in the comments chimed in with their sadness over Sam.
Kirsten Storms (Maxie) took to her Instagram stories to share a clip of her scenes that were posted by GH, tagging Anderson and Burton after saying, “Nothing better than having such incredibly talented scene partners. When you have an episode as emotional as this one…”
Burton recalled the scenes on an episode of his podcast, Daily Drama, which he co-hosts with GH co-star Anderson. “Being in the hospital, everybody did an amazing job…. like, incredible.”
Burton went on to share a bit of behind-the-scenes from the moment Jason hugs Spinelli. “In rehearsal, it was actually supposed to be me hugging her,” he said, referring to Storms’ Maxie. “I said, ‘If there was ever a time I would hug Spinelli, it would be now.’ And after all these years, for us to hug there… there was history there.”
Anderson shared the same clip as Storms, adding a tearful emoji to his Instagram story. He later revealed on his podcast, Daily Drama, that his character’s tears were very real.
“We walked back into the space of the room, feeling, ourselves, what we were feeling,” he remembered of the scene with Storms. “And then we just kind of look at each other, and I put my hand on her shoulder, and we just kind of collapse into each other, and just… it all came out.”
Finn Francis Carr (Rocco) shared on his Instagram a few photos from his GH scenes, including Rocco’s heart-to-heart with Laura (Genie Francis) in the GH chapel and an emotional moment for him and his dad, Dante.
“Blown away by these brilliant actors! Sharing the screen with them during these highly emotional scenes was a great honor!” the young actor wrote.
While Benard hasn’t actively said anything about the scenes — though he did admit on X what he thought of Monaco’s firing — the actor reposted a viewer’s words on X who expressed their sadness for all of GH’s broken supercouples, including JaSam.
“Sonny & Brenda…Jason & Sam…It has been a hell of a ride @GeneralHospital Going to probably need a Sonny & Carly Reunion to get thru this…” they said, tagging each of the actors and adding the hashtag #GH.
