Actor Carlo Rota joined some General Hospital co-stars to discuss what’s it’s been like working on daytime for the first time and his experience at GH.
Rota appeared on Daily Drama, hosted by GH’s Steve Burton and Bradford Anderson, and shared his thoughts about his first daytime gig. “I had never done any daytime, so I have to be talked through it; the various energies, the pace… the budget,” he noted, eliciting laughs from Burton and Anderson.
“The welcoming that I have received from various people,” Rota went on. “Casting; Frank, of course, who’s the big cheese; and you lovely people… Emma and Jonathan and, of course, you,” he told Burton, hinting at some future Jason and Sidwell scenes as Jason heads on his mission to find Lucky.
When it comes to how Rota’s feeling being on a soap opera for the first time, he continued, “I think this is one of those things where something hasn’t happened in your career and you just discount it, and then you step into it and you realize, ‘Oh, no, I think I’m quite well-built for it.'”
“I think it’s the closest TV gets to theater,” he complimented daytime television, to which Anderson agreed, having a background in theater.

Rota also noted the pace in which GH films, referring to it as “break-neck” and commenting on the way “whatever you do, that’s it” when it comes to filming. But despite needing to get his bearings in the daytime world, Rota emphasized, “I’m having a lot of fun doing it.”
