Is Drew a redeemable character?
The Drew Quartermaine character has become quite unlikeable on General Hospital. Can he be redeemed or is it too late?
Drew (Cameron Mathison) originally came to Port Charles as Jason (now Steve Burton) with a new face. It was later revealed that he wasn’t Jason, he was his long-lost twin Drew Caine, played by Billy Miller.
That Drew was likable, even lovable. We felt for him when Sam (Kelly Monaco) chose Jason. He was a caring dad to his son Oscar (Garren Stitt) and was even forgiving and kind to Franco (Roger Howarth). He also made a best friend in Curtis (Donnell Turner).
Drew was presumed dead in a plane crash but reemerged years later. He made it back to Port Charles and was a celebrated hero. He fell in love with Carly (Laura Wright) and even took the fall for her insider trading and went to prison.
Drew was very different after his release.
The new Drew first appeared slimy when he wanted to take ELQ away from his cousin Ned (Wally Kurth). That is not something the old Drew would have done. He then dumped Carly when he found out Jason was alive. He was afraid he would no longer come first. Drew is more than a little jealous of his brother.
His worst behavior was kissing, and then sleeping with, his nephew’s wife Willow (Katelyn MacMullen). Let’s not forget that he was sleeping with her mother Nina (Cynthia Watros) at the same time. To top it off, he plans to cut his bestie Curtis out of the job he was promised. Can someone actually come back from all that?
Right now just about everyone in Port Charles hates Drew and his sleazy behavior. But let’s be honest, many GH characters have been forgiven for a lot worse. Some even celebrated. We have seen liars, cheaters, murderers, and even serial killers become heroes in Port Charles.
Maybe Drew and Willow are meant to be. Michael (Chad Duell) could end up with his previous love Sasha (Sofia Mattsson) and live happily ever after. Drew might turn out to be a wonderful congressman and help the community. He may prove himself a great dad and stepdad. Anything is possible on GH.
