While hosting the game show Beat the Bridge and participating in Great American Family’s upcoming Christmas Festival, Cameron Mathison also continues to please his General Hospital fans. The actor spoke about the strange romance between Drew and Nina and the unexpected kiss between him and Willow.
In July, GH star Cameron Mathison (Drew) took some time to discuss various aspects of his exceedingly busy career with Digital Journal. Of course, the bizarre romance (if you can call it that) between Drew and Nina (Cynthia Watros) was not only completely unexpected by the fans but also a shocker to the actors. Fans may recall that Drew and Nina had engaged in hate sex several times, substituting his office floor for a bed. Even though they’re finally starting to see the value in letting go of their contempt for one another, they’re still not an official couple and have kept their physical relationship on the down low, although Nina did confide her dalliance with Sasha (Sofia Mattsson).
As fate would have it, a weird emotional moment occurred on the 4th of July when Drew and his niece-in-law Willow (Katelyn MacMullen) were somehow overcome with unfathomable feelings and kissed each other. Fearing she made the biggest mistake of her life, Willow went to her formerly estranged bio-mom, Nina, to get pointers on what to do.
Ever the schemer, Nina (who held her visceral shock inside) wasted no time in advising Willow to lie and say nothing about the kiss. Nina later slapped Drew for his actions, but the two are okay now. Go figure. But, soaps fans know that very few secrets stay secret, and Mathison admitted that the story was “messy.”
Mathison explained that he loved the current storyline, stating that it’s been great fun and will certainly divide the fans. If Drew and Nina together weren’t shocking enough, Drew and Willow is an off-the-charts head scratcher (and Drew’s also been giving Jordan (Tanisha Harper) the goo-goo eyes every time he sees her…boy, he’s become a real player!) But Mathison’s take is that Drew is only human and cautioned viewers that trying something like what he does at home would be a bad choice. “My character didn’t see it coming, but he and Willow were in a vulnerable moment,” he explained.
The actor also enjoys the fact that characters must face the consequences of their actions, much like people often do in the real world. “Sometimes in life, people make bad decisions based on feelings and emotions that are caught up in the moment,” he stated, explaining that real people and characters must deal with the messes they make and eventually put things right. He also praised the writing, stating, “It’s a good story and good soap opera. I’ve never really been involved in a story like that.”
