General Hospital star Cameron Mathison shared an emotional social media post paying tribute to his beloved dog Red on the anniversary of his death. The soap star reflected on how beloved Red was by everyone in the family and added a big question at the end of his caption.

Mathison’s fans responded beautifully to his question, and many will surely be eager to see if he decides he’s ready to follow through.

Pondering A New Beginning

Recently, Mathison shared a touching carousel of photos on his Instagram page. He wrote, “One year without you, Red. You weren’t just a dog to us… you really were family.”

Mathison continued, “Your love, loyalty, and all the laughter you brought to our lives will never fade. Miss you every single day Red Red. Thank you for all the joy and unconditional love.”

The General Hospital actor noted he was especially emotional over the last photo in his post.

That photo showed Mathsion on the floor with Red. He had his hand on Red’s head, and Red’s paw was on his.

In parenthesis at the end of the caption, Mathison asked, “And is it time for me to get another?”

Nearly 1,000 notes flooded the comment section of Mathison’s post. Many of the comments were notes of support over the loss of Red.

Several people responded directly to Mathison’s question about getting another dog.

“It’s always ok to get another dog. So many need loving homes. I believe it honors our dog that [passed]. A dog is all love, and they always want you to be loved by a fellow dog,” wrote one of Mathison’s supporters.

Another fan commented, “It is time if your heart is ready! I promise the next one will help to heal your broken heart!”

Someone else suggested that Mathison should get another dog, and their suggestion was quite specific. “Yes, a babygirl named Ruby.”

Mathison replied to that comment with a couple of teary emojis, seemingly touched by the idea of giving a new dog a name honoring Red.

“It was 14 months after my cat of 19 years passed that I finally felt open to another. And it has been the greatest gift. Let your heart start to open again. There are so many animals desperate for a loving home,” shared a separate fan of Mathison’s.
