On General Hospital, Cameron Mathison’s Drew Quartermaine has been double dipping. He’s danced between the sheets with Nina a few times as well as kissed her daughter — and his niece-in-law — Willow. Now that he has admitted it to Willow’s husband, Michael, things will worsen when his actions become public knowledge. Mathison recently talked about Willow and Drew’s motivations.
It looks like Drew’s run for Congress will take a downward turn right into the toilet. A drunken Cody (Josh Kelly), angry that his girlfriend Sasha (Sofia Mattsson) turned out to be his first cousin, blurted out Drew’s secret dalliances at a bar. The two men subsequently had a physical fight.
Meanwhile, Ned’s private investigator caught the whole thing on tape, and he and Tracy (Jane Elliot) couldn’t wipe the smirks off their faces when they saw it. They thought they had Drew over a barrel. Ultimately, they were shocked when he told Michael (temporary replacement Robert Adamson) about his kiss with Willow (Katelyn MacMullen).
Mathison was surprised that Soap Opera Digest recalled a similar dalliance that his former All My Children character Ryan Lavery perpetrated. Way back when he bedded Erica Kane (Susan Lucci) and her daughter Kendall (Alicia Minshew) simultaneously. Explaining Drew’s actions, he told the outlet, “Sometimes, you meet somebody, and you just can’t stop thinking about them. Even if it’s not right.”

Mathison considers Drew and Willow as “outsiders,” adding, “They’ve helped each other, and Drew helped Willow stay alive; he risked his life for her before, and they’ve always had a very, very good connection.” The actor brought up a good point with that, which is something that feels forgotten on the show. Yes, Drew saved Willow, but it was because he was part of a team that saved the world. (Why he’s not using that fact to boost his campaign is beyond us.)
Mathison also felt Drew and Willow’s attraction to one another is more than just physical, hinting at a larger story down the road. But he knows that while Drew has a moral compass, his actions go blatantly against that, irritating the fans. But while he knows that what Drew and Willow are doing has shocked the audience, he maintains that, like in real life, their attraction “Can be all-encompassing, and you just can’t shake it.
