Soaps aren’t the only shows to have fan gatherings. Cameron Mathison took part last weekend in Christmas Con, which brings stars from holiday movies and supporters together for autographs and photo ops. While there, the General Hospital actor says he was frequently asked about his status with the ABC soap opera, and now, he’s setting the record straight.

Cameron Mathison: Cain Is Able

In an Instagram story, Mathison, who plays Drew Cain on GH, shot a video of himself walking through Christmas Con, which showed all the fun that the event has to offer. “What’s up, everybody?” Mathison asked. “I’m at Christmas Con — lots of excitement here, but the number one question that I’m getting while I’m here…is whether [or not] I’m leaving General Hospital…and I don’t know why there’s a rumor out there. But I’m definitely not. I’m having the best time ever on GH.

Perhaps buzz was generated that the actor would be making a change after his new deal to make a series of films for Great American Family was announced. That’s certainly what one social media user suspected. “The thing is, fans were asking Cameron on his Instagram if [he] was leaving [GH] ever since he signed with [Great American Family]. That’s how long they have been asking, and he didn’t say anything until now with so many fans asking him at [Christmas Con] he finally answered,” tweeted crystalinaacosta40.

Mathison hit the daytime scene 26 years ago as good guy Ryan Lavery on All My Children. The actor quickly became a fan favorite, amassing a loyal following and two Daytime Emmy nominations in the category of Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for his role as Ryan. He was with the show when it concluded in 2011.

In addition to his role as Ryan, Mathison has stepped in front of the camera as host of the SOAPnet series I Wanna Be A Soap Star, the Hallmark Channel’s talk show Home & Family, and he was a correspondent for Entertainment Tonight. In 2007, he took part in Season 5 of Dancing With the Stars when he was paired with pro dancer Edyta Śliwińska.
