Set your DVR for Monday, March 4 because Jason Morgan, portrayed by Steve Burton, is making his highly anticipated General Hospital return. But a fan-favorite character comeback always inspires fan theories, and these are the best ones surrounding the return that is about to rock Port Charles.
Jason was last seen on GH in 2021 when he battled Peter (Wes Ramsey) during a showdown in Crete and was presumed dead after a tunnel collapsed on him. Before the collapse, he managed to save the lives of Liesl (Kathleen Gati), his brother Drew (Cameron Mathison), and his love interest Britt (Kelly Thiebaud).
The first theory surrounding Jason’s return that’s circled the web also involves the return of another character. A little while before Jason “died,” he had an unexpected romance with Dr. Britt Westbourne. After achieving redemption for her many crimes, Britt’s final story involved her diagnosis of Huntington’s Disease, which was passed down to her from her father Faison (Anders Hove), who ironically, was shot by Jason. He would later die at Peter’s hands.
Jason was the only one to convince Britt to find out if she had Huntington’s and later was able to comfort her through the process. Though Britt died in 2022 at the hands of The Hook, we all know nobody dies on soaps, and it’s entirely possible Britt survived her injuries and took off to find Jason, and the two have been happily hiding out ever since.
When a SORASed Jason arrived back in Port Charles in 1991, he was quickly known as the family favorite Quartermaine: kindhearted, athletic, and an aspiring doctor. But his car accident with AJ (Sean Kanan) changed the course of his life when he lost all memory of his time as a Quartermaine, trading in a stethoscope for a leather jacket and a medical career for life in the mob.
Is it possible that the collapse turned his brain damage around and gave him back his memories as Jason Quartermaine? This would be the ultimate twist when he returns and the citizens of Port Charles expect him to hop on his Harley and take back his place as Sonny’s (Maurice Benard) righthand man. This theory would bring new life to the beloved character, and maybe even allow Jason to live out the rest of his life as the GH doctor he was meant to be.
GH viewers have known for months that someone, somewhere is after Sonny. After several attempts on his and his family’s lives, it was finally revealed — after an interrogation with Li (Samuel Wang), of Selina’s (Lydia Look) organization — that the mastermind behind the attacks refers to themselves as “Stone.” Sonny’s first thought when he heard the name was, of course, his late friend Stone Cates (Michael Sutton). After all, Stone’s brother Jagger (Adam Harrington) did just suddenly show up in Port Charles.
But what if “Stone” is short for someone’s beloved nickname? Jason garnered the nickname Stonecold as part of Spinelli’s (Bradford Anderson) many nicknames for the people of Port Charles. It would be the perfect way to disguise himself as he attempts to take down Sonny and the rest of the mob, possibly under some tarot card-induced trance.
