We knew it was coming and have been writing about it since late last year. A baby switch was finally born this week on General Hospital (GH) and it didn’t go quite as expected, but what birth ever does?
We’re extremely grateful Maxie’s baby escaped this hell because he decided to arrive early on the same side of the road where Baby Jonah was born, except everyone thinks Baby Jonah is dead. Except for Brad (Parry Shen) and Nelle (Chloe Lanier).
By the time Baby James was home happy and healthy with Maxie, we turned to the mystery baby Brad and Lucas (Ryan Carnes) were set to adopt because we weren’t giving up on our baby switch.
But, who the heck expected the mother of a live baby to be so twisted she’d give him up, wander the road with a dead baby, and cry everyone a river full of crocodile tears as she pulled off the scam of a lifetime.
Or, is it? Nelle clearly didn’t think this through since this depraved little idea was SO spur of the moment and there’s a lot to this whole story that really shouldn’t make sense to anyone.
For now, PC is buying into this little act, but what happens when Julian (William deVry) one day decides to show someone (Lucas, maybe) the baby he held last week. The one who inexplicably died as soon as Brad brought him home. There may very well be an identifier there that makes someone go ‘hmmm…’
Next, we all know who delivered Nelle’s baby and she’s out there somewhere. Obrecht does not want to be found, but surely she will be eventually and perhaps she’ll mention she delivered a perfectly healthy baby boy who was breathing long after Nelle claimed he wasn’t.
And let’s not forget there’s a big difference between a 40-minute-old baby and day-old baby.
We have yet to figure out how Lucas hasn’t questioned this, but maybe it will nag at him – just why did this baby have no umbilical cord clamp, no vitamin drops in his eyes, and no thorough bath? He should have asked Brad, “Did you get this child from the side of the road?” But, of course, he didn’t.
We also have to wonder how a coroner didn’t notice that Nelle’s allegedly stillborn baby had formula in him, which a day-old baby who was bottle fed would have.
There are loose ends everywhere here, and it’s Brad who needs to watch out since Nelle couldn’t care less and will vanish at some point next week anyway.
