In the day of healthier economic times, soap opera viewers were treated to romantic remotes for honeymoons featuring their favorite couples. However, General Hospital star Michael E. Knight hit a snag when he was about to embark on his real-life post-wedding vacation with then-wife Catherine Hickland.
Michael E Knight And James Patrick Stuart Are Best Friends
Michael E Knight (Martin Gray) and GH co-star James Patrick Stuart (Valentin Cassadine) recently took part in a GH Fantasy Events gathering via Zoom with a large group of supporters. Knight recounted how he and Hickland were all set to go on a romantic honeymoon to Nevis when a huge opportunity threw a snag into their plans.
“Here’s something,” Michael E Knight told GH Fantasy Events attendees. “I took Patrick on my honeymoon. Catherine and I had gotten married. I went back to All My Children [as Tad Martin]. I don’t think she was on Loving yet [as Tess].”
The Show Must Go On
However, Hickland did get an amazing opportunity and that was to do Les Miserables on Broadway. Knight says that he attempted to get a refund or reschedule on the honeymoon but the deal was locked in; the trip had to be taken or the funds already spent would be lost.

“I called Patrick and said, ‘I’ve got these tickets — you want to go to a Four Seasons with me?'” Knight shares. At the time, there was a huge soap following in Nevis so when the two AMC heartthrobs showed up, all eyes were upon them!
Michael E Knight Has Great Taste in Friends
“Patrick insisted on getting a Speedo,” Knight chuckles. “Remember we went scuba diving on that trip?” Stuart shares. “We saw a skeleton in a [ship] wreck.” The two also caught an episode of the first season of a sitcom that would go on to become one of TV’s most popular programs — Friends! “We saw the [show in which] Marcel [the monkey] changed the TV to Spanish [language].”
