It looks like there are Sonny days ahead on General Hospital as Maurice Benard is sticking around.
According to published reports, the uber-popular actor has inked a brand-new deal with the soap just in time for him to celebrate 25 years playing Michael “Sonny” Corinthos Jr.– Port Charles mobster extraordinaire…er, we mean coffee magnate.
So, after a quarter of a century in Port Charles, what else can Sonny do that hasn’t already been done? He’s had several loves of his life (but somehow keeps ending up with Carly), he’s certainly killed enough people, and he can rival Days of Our Lives’ Stefano DiMera in the offspring competition.
Well, Benard has some ideas he was happy to share with Soap Hub recently. Of course, they involve Sonny’s past because the past defines one’s future. And, it’s a past that weighs heavily on Sonny’s conscience and character–just as much as it does Ava’s, as witnessed on yesterday’s show.
Bring back AJ and Connie–stat!
“I’m fine with bringing back anybody. I’m not like I used to be…you can bring back Connie, AJ, we’d have scenes that’d be really great. I’m all for that,” Benard said.
After all, Ava and Sonny killed Connie and AJ, respectively, and have never paid. This could wipe the slate clean for them if these two pivotal characters weren’t actually dead at all.
“I wouldn’t have a problem with that at all,” Benard added.
We already got a taste of Connie in Ava’s dream and more Connie/Kate equals a lot more drama for Sonny–and Carly, who have very little conflict lately that doesn’t involve what Josslyn will wear to the dance.
And, we all know AJ is good for some angst. With not one, but TWO brothers around now, it would clear Sonny’s name–and offer the Quartermaines something brand-new to do.
General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
