Maura West And Genie Francis Are The QUEENS Of General Hospital

It was everything we’ve been waiting for and more on General Hospital when Ava finally learned what was really going on in her life in the last few months. We knew Maura West would bring it like she never had before, but having Laura be the one to explain the whole sordid tale to Ava was exactly as it should have been.

The contrast between Ava’s (Maura West) pure rage and emotion and Laura’s (Genie Francis) quiet understanding made the scenes all the more chilling.

Gentle Genie proved once again why GH experienced so much fan backlash and outrage when it dropped Francis to recurring status and then lost her altogether for the better part of 2018.

She is the guiding light (so to speak) of Port Charles, offering compassion even to the woman she thought was sleeping with her husband.

Even when Laura did think Ava was with Kevin, we saw a quiet understanding develop between the two that led to the magnificent scenes on that bridge this week.

(Too bad it kept reminding us of the last bridge Ava was on, with her sister Liv, and niece Sam pregnant at the bottom of the bridge, a la Carly.)

While Laura remained subtly quiet and level-headed despite the extreme circumstances, Ava was pure Ava, with West bringing us ALL the emotions, as she does so well over and over again.

The denial of Laura’s story, the eventual acceptance that ok, maybe she was only with Ryan once (although it still made her feel dirty) and then the realization that she’d been with him the whole time. That Kevin, good, upstanding Kevin, never loved her at all.

A serial killer accepted her for who she was. A serial killer was in love with her. Then, it all came together in her mind and that moment was everything.

A serial killer. A serial killer brutally murdered her daughter.

West didn’t have to say a word and we knew Ava knew. When she finally wailed “Kiki” and Laura took her in her arms, our emotions were raw and we remembered WHY we love soaps.

Monday’s episode was originally scheduled to air last Friday on International Women’s Day (but was pushed back due to the Michael Cohen congressional hearing). Watching West and Francis play these scenes to such divine perfection was a Women’s Day indeed.

General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
