Married for the Mob: Carly-Jason General Hospital Plot’s Bold Genius

General Hospital is going there, the route many fans envisioned after Sonny Corinthos was “killed off” –- marrying longtime best friends Carly Corinthos and Jason Morgan. But it’s not the way viewers could have ever initially imagined. Instead, the pair are marrying for the mob, and the plot is bold genius.

General Hospital Power Play

The wedding isn’t about two old pals falling into each other’s arms now that they’re both free. That would have been too easy and predictable from a writing standpoint, not to mention forced from a character one. Carly (Laura Wright) and Jason (Steve Burton) have established themselves as true-blue friends over the years, so crossing the line back to lovers would have been wrong. It also would have made things too messy and weird once Sonny (Maurice Benard) ultimately returns from the dead.

Marrying for business, however, is a brilliant twist and makes perfect sense. It will totally secure Carly and Jason’s standing as a united front; a power couple ruling the Corinthos crime family. It’s a move so clever and calculated that even Sonny will likely approve.

GH Man in the Middle

Carly and Jason’s pending “I Do’s” on General Hospital totally stirs things up in Jason’s world. He’s finally moved on and slept with another woman, Britt Westbourne (Kelly Thiebaud), after his split from Sam McCall (Kelly Monaco); the pair’s on-the-run adventure paving the way for a possible new romance. Marrying Carly blows that potential relationship up. How will Britt react? And what about her protective mother Liesl Obrecht (Kathleen Gati)?

Then there’s Sam. Sure, she set Jason free, but she’s bound to feel something stir inside her when she finds out he’s going to wed another woman. He’s the love of her life, her soulmate. Will she speak up before it’s too late and reclaim her man? Or will she forever hold her peace, realizing it’s just a strategic business move?

General Hospital: Carly’s World

Carly’s going to have to explain her pending nuptials to family and friends, too. While the wise-beyond-her-years Jossyln will likely understand and back her mom, Joss’s dad, Jax (Ingo Rademacher), probably won’t be as accepting of his ex-wife’s latest move. From his point of view, Carly will be taking another step further down the mob life rabbit hole, upping the danger for her and everyone around her. It could end up being the final straw for Jax, destroying the amicable relationship he’s long had with his ex.
