Marcus Coloma: Meet General Hospital’s New Nikolas Cassadine

When Nikolas Cassadine went out the window back in 2016 (as Nick Stabile, who had stepped in for Tyler Christopher), few General Hospital fans believed it was the last we’d see of Laura’s oldest son and Cassadine heir. On Thursday’s episode, fans were proven right as daytime newcomer Marcus Coloma made his GH debut in the role.

Marcus Coloma Is Nikolas

As soon as he removed his Halloween mask and Ava (Maura West), in disbelief to see her old partner-in-crime, uttered the man she saw’s name — Nikolas — the Internet was buzzing trying to track down who it was. ABC has yet to officially announce his casting — or who he’s playing — but it didn’t take online soap fans long to do some digging and start identifying the GH newcomer as Coloma.

The actor has appeared all over primetime in various recurring roles like Marcus Johnson on One Tree Hill, Father Tomas on Point Pleasant, Leo Cruz on Make It or Break It, and Father Jonas Alcaraz on Major Crimes.

In the Beginning
Marcus Coloma was born on October 18, 1978, in Middletown, California. He is of Italian, German, Spanish, and Native American descent — a great look that should blend in nicely as part of the Greek-Russian-based Cassadine Clan.

Nikolas and his son Spencer have been having their named dropped a lot lately on General Hospital and there has been rampant speculation that either one or both would soon be returning to the canvas — but no casting had been released. The show managed to keep this firmly under wraps for the big reveal.

The Big Plan

Jax (Ingo Rademacher) and Hayden (Rebecca Budig) have been working to secure the location of the codicil to Helena Cassadine’s will and fans suspected they may be working for either Spencer or Nikolas. With Nik’s appearance, odds are now looking a little better that he’s their cohort — but it is strange to have Nik and Jax on the same side.

The two men sparred over the love of Sonny’s (Maurice Benard) half-sister, Courtney (Mike’s daughter) — Spencer’s mother. And Nik’s history with Hayden is even more tormented. Could it be Nik got wind of them working with Spencer and realized he needed to come out of hiding?

It looks like GH may finally be ready to reveal those and more answers now that Nik is back on the scene. General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
