Malpractice: Should Lucas Have Noticed There Was Something Wrong With His Son On General Hospital (GH)?

We all knew a baby switch was coming on General Hospital (GH). It just didn’t play out the way we expected!

Instead of Maxie’s (Kirsten Storms) child somehow ending up with Nelle (Chloe Lanier), Nelle and Michael’s (Chad Duell) newborn is now living with Lucas (Ryan Carnes) and Brad (Parry Shen).

And Nelle, instead of substituting a living baby for her own dead one, gave her living child to Brad in trade for his dead infant. So Nelle could break Michael’s heart. That was kind of badass. (But, also pretty bad.)

Brad, we can assume was in shock after losing his adopted child to SIDS mere minutes after bringing little Wiley home.

But, what was the deal with Lucas? He’s a doctor. He can’t tell that his baby is only a few hours old – not to mention obviously not born in a hospital? Here’s how almost 12,000 viewers saw it.

Checklist
Why wasn’t the baby’s umbilical cord clamped? Did he get antibiotics in his eyes right after birth? Was he circumcised? Those are all things that should have raised a red flag for Lucas, according to an overwhelming 96% of you.

OK, so Lucas and Brad agreed not to have the baby circumcised. And the antibiotics have all cleared up. But the umbilical cord… How did Obrecht (Kathleen Gati) sever it anyway? Did the baby have a heel-prick? The cute, tiny Band-Aid? How did they even get the birth goo off? Physician, pay attention!

New Dad
It doesn’t matter how many medical degrees you have, 3% of the audience is more forgiving. All new dads are hopeless. Lucas wasn’t acting like a doctor, he was acting like a father.

He was so moved by the sight of his son, he was too busy counting fingers and toes, not giving him a medical once-over. Cut him some slack!
