We can’t help ourselves. We anticipate The Nurses’ Ball every year because hey, there’s nothing like a good musical act and some red carpet glamour, but does all that belong in Port Charles? No matter how many years General Hospital (GH) does this production, we can’t help asking that question.
This year, we have another burning question? WHY does Lucy have a llama? Seriously, why? Whatever her explanation is, it doesn’t matter. There is no reason for Lucy to have a llama. A duck? Of course. But, not a llama, no way, no how.
(According to James Patrick Stuart’s tweet, he’s contract. HE’S JUST KIDDING!)
Now, that we’ve gotten that out of the way our minds just keep going back to the fact that Port Charles is a small Upstate New York town and there is no reason any formal party should require a red carpet and cameras. Just none. It always makes us shake our heads and is not reminiscent of the Nurses’ Balls of the 90s at all.
Sure, we always had to suspend our disbelief and buy the fact that our favorite characters are also talented singers and dances who can rehearse fabulous musical revue numbers in between solving mysteries, catching bad guys, being bad guys, and living tumultuous love lives.
Heck, the nurses always prove they’re so darn talented we have to wonder why thy decided to become nurses when they could have just moved downstate to NYC and become Broadway stars.
Each year someone else reveals a talent and that they had time to put together a musical act that could win a Tony award. This year we get to see what Ava’s been up to in between blackmailing Sonny and blackmailing Nelle–and bedding an ex priest. Busy girl, indeed.
Go with it, just go with it, we keep telling ourselves. It’s fun, it’s fantasy, it’s a soap. And for a few days each May, it’s also a glamorous musical so pull up a chair and enjoy the show.
(Besides, we think at this ball the right people will actually learn Peter is Henrik and then we can all be put out of our misery. Oh yeah, can we also have Lucy in her underwear at the end cause last year was tres disappointing?)
