Life After General Hospital: Catching Up With Ryan Paevey

Just because an actor exits their daytime role it doesn’t mean we don’t want to know what they’re up to now. In fact, many former soap opera stars are thriving and tackling new and exciting television opportunities. Take for instance former General Hospital favorite Ryan Paevey.

Having spent the early part of his career booking modeling assignments, working in music videos and appearing in television commercials, Paevey was encouraged to try his hand at “real” acting and he soon landed a starring role on the lone ABC sudser.

Paevey made his debut on December 30, 2013, in the part of detective James Nathan West. In the fictional world of GH, Paevey played a recent transfer to the Port Charles Police Department who is immediately smitten by Maxie Jones the young woman whose apartment he is subletting.

In the ensuing years “Detective Sexypants” and “Maximista” would be paired together in a fan-favorite coupling that would culminate in a heartfelt wedding ceremony in early 2017.

Paevey continued in his daytime role but also took the opportunity to film two made-for television-movies — Unleashing Mr. Darcy and Harvest Love — which were broadcast on the Hallmark channel in 2016 and 2017 respectively.

In late 2017, Paevey made the decision to exit his GH role and the writers scripted a tragic shooting that would claim the life of Maxie’s beloved husband. The actor’s final episode was screened on February 9, 2018, capping off a four-year run.

Almost immediately, Paevey was back in front of the camera reprising his role as Donovan Darcy in the film Marrying Mr. Darcy. Two other Hallmark originals followed: Hope at Christmas and From Friend to Fiancé. In 2019 he scored a recurring role on the BET primetime serial Games People Play as sports fanatic Bryce Daniels.
