Monica Quartermaine hasn’t had the easiest life on General Hospital, but her portrayer, Leslie Charleson, still has plenty to celebrate.
That’s because she was born on February 22, 1945, in Kansas City, Missouri, which means she is turning 74 years old today!
While she is best known for her GH role, she wasn’t the first actress to play Monica — but she has played her for over 40 years. It also wasn’t her first soap opera.
Charleson had roles on a variety of soaps, including as Alice Whipple on As the World Turns and Iris on Love Is a Many Splendored Thing, where her character was a part of a hot love triangle with David Birney and Donna Mills (ex-Madeline, GH).
After those soaps, she went on to guest star on several primetime shows like Mannix, Adam-12, The Rookies, Emergency!, Ironside, and Marcus Welby, M.D.
That was soon followed by a role in the feature film Day of the Dolphin with George C. Scott. about dolphins that they taught to speak.
In later years, Charleson guested on Friends, Diagnosis Murder, and Dharma & Greg. She also appeared in the TV movie Woman on the Ledge with fellow daytimers Deidre Hall (Marlena, Days of Our Lives), Colleen Zenk (ex-Barbara, ATWT), Josh Taylor (Roman, DAYS), and Peter Bergman (Jack, The Young and the Restless).
