Last Rites: Did Ava Break Your Heart On General Hospital?

“Lauren Katherine Jerome, listen to your mother, wake up!” Ava (Maura West) first ordered, then begged her body-bagged daughter, Kiki (Hayley Erin), before no longer being able to deny the General Hospital truth.

Multiple Emmy winner West didn’t disappoint in the scenes where Ava was forced to accept Kiki’s death. But were fans feeling her pain… or something else? Almost 9,000 passed judgment.

She Had It Coming
A cold-hearted 52% of you did not feel an iota of sympathy for Ava, arguing that she was responsible for Kiki’s death.

If she hadn’t gone blabbing to Ryan (Jon Lindstrom) about Kiki’s affair with Griffin (Matt Cohen), she would have never given the psycho the idea that Ava would be happier without Kiki. And Ryan is nothing if not an obliging serial killer.

It doesn’t matter to you that Ava had no idea Ryan was a serial killer, or that he was even Ryan.

She assumed he was Kevin, the twin Ryan has locked away in Ferncliff. And most women would have the right to be upset if their boyfriend hit the sack with someone else… especially when said someone else is your daughter.

Still, whatever heartbreak Ava suffered, you were right there to point out she deserved every agonizing minute of it.

Blood Is Thicker Than Nonsense
A more forgiving 48%, however, understand that no matter what bad blood went down between them, Ava and Kiki were still mother and daughter. And they loved each other, no matter what.

Given enough time, Ava and Kiki would have been able to get past the Griffin incident – seriously, many of you don’t think he’s worth either of them – so what Ava is mourning isn’t just her present-day loss, but all the chances they’ll never have now.

A mother losing her child is always tragic, even when that mother is Ava.
