Kin Shriner recently decided to host a talk show. The General Hospital favorite, who hasn’t been on the show in a while, shared a faux-home-movie-style video in which he “interviewed” his older brother, comedian, actor, director, and producer Will Shriner.

Key Takeaways

  • Kin Shriner turned interviewer for a chat with his brother Will.
  • A ruined Zorro costume remains a sore subject.
  • Will looked back on his early comedy career.
  • He shared memories of David Letterman and The Tonight Show.
  • The brothers laughed about Will’s GH connections.

Brothers, Cameras, and a Zorro Grudge

GH’s Kin Shriner (Scotty) shared a video on Instagram, in which he “interviewed” his brother, comedian Will Shriner. He captioned it, “Part 1 of Comedian @wilshriner.” Before they even got started, Will wanted to know, “Where do I pick up my check?” When Kin explained the appearance was unpaid, Will immediately replied, “Oh, it’s a freebie?” That pretty much set the tone for everything that followed.

The brothers spent part of the conversation reminiscing about their childhood, including the Super 8 movies they made growing up around Hollywood. Will recalled, “The Man From U.N.C.L.E. was a Super 8 movie we did parodying The Man From U.N.C.L.E.” Kin quickly reminded him that he belonged behind the camera anyway.

Then came the Zorro costume incident, which Will clearly has not forgotten. He reminded Kin that he borrowed his prized costume while he was sick in second grade. According to Will, the cape disappeared, the hat blew away, and the whole thing was ruined. Decades later, he admitted he’s still “a little irked about the Zorro costume.”

From Taxi Cabs to Johnny Carson

As the conversation shifted to Will’s career, the brothers recalled driving taxis together after moving to California. Will attended UCLA film school while Kin pursued acting, and the two had already been helping each other on projects long before either became a recognizable face on television. Will even reminded Kin that he appeared in one of his award-winning student films, though he still never shared the prize money.

Will also looked back on his early days in comedy at The Comedy Store, where he crossed paths with future legends. “ I went in there a couple of times to see some comics that I met,” he explained, adding, “And that’s where I met David Letterman, Jay Leno, Richard Lewis, Gary Shanley…you name it. Everybody who was in comedy was at the Comedy Store.”

He explained that getting six minutes on stage was the goal, while becoming a regular meant you were finally getting somewhere. Eventually, Letterman helped open even bigger doors by bringing him onto The Tonight Show when he was guest-hosting.

Naturally, Kin couldn’t resist steering the conversation back toward GH. He jokingly praised Will’s appearance as an usher during Luke and Laura’s (Anthony Geary, Genie Francis) wedding, claiming people still talk about the performance. By the time the video abruptly cut off, the brothers were laughing about Will’s later GH guest appearance and preparing to continue the story in Part 2.

For longtime fans, the real fun wasn’t the Hollywood history. It was watching two brothers spend nearly nine minutes proving that some family dynamics never change.
