Kim finally shared with Drew the horrible secret she’s been keeping about Oscar’s health on General Hospital… but is there someone else she really needs to tell?!
When Kim (Tamara Braun) first appeared in Port Charles with her son Oscar (Garren Stitt), she seemed nice enough and good at her job. She loved her son and seemed to be interested in getting to know his biological dad again, who it seems she never gave up on.
Never was there any sign of the heartbreak that she was keeping from everyone, that Oscar was dying from brain cancer. Now we know doctors sometimes have a God complex but Kim has taken hers to the next level! She alone decides who gets to know about Oscar’s condition… and that includes the patient and his dad!
Kudos to Drew (Billy Miller), Oscar’s father, for bringing up a very obvious point that Kim doesn’t seem to want to deal with: Oscar needs to be told. She isn’t protecting him; she is protecting herself.
It was bad enough she didn’t want to tell Drew. Thank goodness Jason (Steve Burton) clued Drew in that his son was at the hospital. Do they want us to hate Kim? How dare she not tell Drew that his son’s at the hospital, even if she wanted to keep the ultimate diagnosis from him.
If she hadn’t gone in search of him, it would have been fine but she’s the one who dragged him into a relationship with his son — he deserved to be all-in — not just what she was willing to tell him.
He’s a good man and, as Liz (Rebecca Herbst) said, could be a source of comfort for her during this time.
But not telling Oscar is just downright cruel. He’s old enough to maintain a girlfriend for a year, he’s old enough to know that his life is in the final stretch.
He might choose not to go to school but to go experience life in all of its glory! We bet rich dad Drew or rich Uncle Jason would fund any adventure the kid wants.
Yet it gets worse. Kim said his tumor is inoperable. That happens all the time — but you know what some of those people do? They get chemo. They get radiation. They enter clinical trials for new experimental drugs. They fight — and she appears to have taken that option off the table for her son. WHY?!
Braun is certainly trying her darnedest to sell this cockamamie story that seems to have been thought of five minutes prior to shooting it. Lord knows she desperately needed something to do.
She’s too talented an actress to be relegated to the material she’s been handed since her return. Frankly, all the players in this saga deserve better. And so do we.
