The mysterious patient sending SOS messages to Carly at Ferncliff sanitarium has had General Hospital fans wondering if it might be Ryan Chamberlain, the maniacal “dead” twin of Dr. Kevin Collins.
Actor Jon Lindstrom, the man behind the two brothers, has heard all the speculation. But what does he have to say on the subject?
Who’s That Guy?
“I actually don’t know [who the patient is],” insists Lindstrom. “We haven’t shot it yet, but I can tell you my suspicions…
“I think it’s Kevin’s long-lost triplet Gary,” he continues with a chuckle. “We haven’t seen Gary in a long time. Well, ever. I have no idea who it is.”
Nevertheless, Lindstrom can’t help but wonder what it would be like to revive the mad Ryan after over two decades.
As longtime GH fans and viewers might remember, the character was believed to have died in an explosion in 1995, after kidnapping his obsession with Felicia’s (Kristina Wagner) daughter Georgie.
Resurrecting Ryan
“Oh, I’d love it,” says Lindstrom about the possibility bringing back Ryan. “I mean, I owe most of my career to that character, because I still actually go out and kind of play him to some degree… a crazy guy.
“I play a lot of bad guys away from General Hospital. That role kind of defined a lot of the success I’ve enjoyed over the last 26 or 27 years as an actor.”

Meanwhile, on the GH set, Lindstrom has devoted all his attention to the saner Kevin, a psychiatrist of all things. It’s meant he’s had to totally reign it in after the madness he evoked as Ryan.
Dr. Do Good
“Even Kevin, now. I could be looser with him,” says Lindstrom. “Still, he’s not this staid, reserved rather repressed individual that we first met all those years ago. He’s been living in America, and he’s married again. Life has been really good for him.”
It’s via Kevin, who’s been treating his latest patient Carly (Laura Wright), that all the Ryan chatter emerged. Again, it was a storyline Lindstrom didn’t see coming.
New Twists
“I’d known Laura a little bit over the years, but I don’t think we ever had a conversation outside of, ‘How are you doing?” shares Lindstrom, who’s enjoyed the plot turn.
“She is a really good actress and fully committed. To be honest she had all the heavy lifting to do. All I had to do was sit back and react, which actors should do. It was great. To fall into [this storyline] has been good.”
The best could be yet to come if Ryan is indeed alive and that mystery Ferncliff resident.
“It’s been surprising in one way that people remember him so vividly after all these years,” admits Lindstrom, who seems to have forgotten how larger than life the character was. “But I guess he was.”
And if Ryan ultimately resurfaces, Kevin, Felicia, and an array of other Port Charles citizens lives are destined for some serious trouble.
