Although the Two Jasons story has been moving at a faster clip than anyone ever expected, there was one thing that took way too long–and those were true, raw emotional scenes between Kelly Monaco and Steve Burton that we hadn’t seen since 2012.
They were a joy to watch today (while they simultaneously ripped our hearts out) and we remembered why they were such a popular pairing with palpable chemistry. That doesn’t take away from the chemistry between Monaco and Billy Miller, which is what makes this story all the more compelling.
However, without Sam even remotely acknowledging her feelings–and acknowledging Jason as a person with his own feelings and not just a vehicle to help Drew–this story could go nowhere.
Sam’s scenes with Monica (Leslie Charleson) yesterday and Jason today addressed some of that. Of course, she thinks about him. Of course, the memories come crashing back into her mind. Of course, if she spoke with him for more than just a few minutes, the tears would flow. Of course, more died that night–a part of her.
Sam needed to say that, needed to feel that, and needed to be more than just a zombie walking through this unreal scenario. It feels as if Sam’s dilemma can move forward now, but it also feels like we needed more.
Until a month ago, Sam thought she was married to THIS Jason on the pier. The same man she married at the Noodle Buddha six years ago. She never fell out of love with him and thought she was still in love with him–and it’s very clear that she is. Wouldn’t she want to touch him, express that love, deep dive right into this more?
We know it’s coming and when it does, it will satisfy some fans and infuriate others, but without Sam exploring what she felt for this Jason all those years, her insistence that she loves the man she’s been with for the last two years seems almost hollow.
