There are fan factions rooting for all kinds of pairings on General Hospital. Among them is a group of viewers who’d love to see Jason and Liz together. The couple’s had chemistry since the first time the show put them together after Lucky was presumed dead, but are they meant to be.
Soap Hub talked to Steve Burton (Jason) about the screen time Jason and Liz (Rebecca Herbst) have shared since his return to the show and let us know if we’ll see more.
“We haven’t had (a lot of scenes together),” Burton says. “We did the scenes in the jail cell. I loved those. Then, Jason went to visit at Christmas to give the gift to Jake and Liz said she’s marrying Franco.”
Speaking of Franco, Burton says that character could be a detriment to Jason and Liz, who share a son, Jake, together from having any kind of relationship. “I think Franco’s a little concerned because of Jason and Liz’s history and also because of Jason and Franco’s history.”
As couples are likely to be mixed and matched in the coming months, Burton’s not sure if a Liz/Jason pairing is on the horizon.
“I don’t know what’s going to happen, but [the chemistry] is always there,” the actor says. “There’s such a history between Jason and Liz. [Becky and I] don’t have to do much in those scenes. It’s always there.”
The actor’s not sure which couples will end up together, but he hopes viewers keep perspective. “It’s great to be passionate,” Burton says. “We’re all doing our job and the best we can to tell a story.”
What Burton knows is that characters finally living happily ever after is often the last thing anyone wants to truly have happen. “The ending is always the worst,” Burton says. “Because then you’re done.”
