We knew Sabrina had a look of recognition rather than fear when a man who looked like Carlos–but didn’t sound like him–showed up at the Q front door the other day. Now, “General Hospital” writers explain their intentions for this brand-new character.
Triangle Time…Again
Yes, the Anti-Carlos is set to complicate things for the newly reunited Michael (Chad Duell) and Sabrina. While fans have waited months for them to find their way back to one another, we knew they couldn’t be happy for long. Besides, the chemistry between Teresa Castillo and Jeffrey Vincent Parise is undeniable no matter who he plays.
The Anti-Carlos
According to the August 1 issue Soap Opera Digest, the writers describe Joe as a VERY different man from his brother. Indeed he is. Rather than playing a smarmy sociopathic hitman, Parise now gets to sink his teeth into a well spoken and clean-cut doctor named Joe Rivera. We’re willing to bet he gets a job at GH–right along with Sabrina.
“It’s fun to see a different side of this actor and to give the audience a chance to see him do something completely different,” Head Writer Jean Passanante told Digest.

Of course, he will also do something the same. As we said, Sabrina and Michael need something to someone to spice things up and Joe certainly fits that bill.
“It seemed that with Sabrina’s return, it would be interesting to add another wrinkle to the relationship between Michael and Sabrina, and her having a child that’s not Michael’s,” Co-Head Writer Shelly Altman said in Digest.
Michael might not have any biological ties to Teddy, but he does want to raise him as his own. Of course, with a man who does have blood ties now in town, things are about to get a lot more interesting in Port Charles.
