Is This How Sonny Avoids a Murder Rap on General Hospital?

It’s only a matter of time before the Port Charles police seriously look at Sonny as a suspect on General Hospital. Alexis is in Pentonville, accused of murdering John Cates, and her lawyer, Martin, told her to throw Sonny under the bus. If she does that, or if they go after him for other reasons, there’s only one way out for the mafia don.

Alibi, Schmalibi

Sonny’s (Maurice Benard) got a flimsy alibi in the murder case. Ex-wife Carly (Laura Wright) has agreed to pretend they had a quick roll in the hay for old times’ sake, but very few are buying that. Soon, the truth that Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn) was covering for Kristina (Kate Mansi), taking Sonny’s gun and going to the Quartermaine estate with the intent of killing Cates, could come out. If that does, there will be a convoluted mess, and she’ll be the prime suspect. (Find out what Nancy Lee Grahn teased about Alexis being in Pentonville.)

If that happens, Sonny may decide to confess (Why he didn’t just hire an assassin or have Jason (Steve Burton) do it is beyond us). Or Alexis flips on him. Either way, he could be prosecuted with no evidence, just his word. But Port Charles can’t have Sonny land in prison because he protects the city. When that occurs, Carly may have an ace up her sleeve.

Brennan’s the Key

Carly was going up against RICO charges recently until the audio recording of her taking control of Sonny’s organization mysteriously disappeared from the FBI computers. Copies of it wouldn’t work because to prosecute fully, the authorities need the original. The man who made it go away was WSB agent John Brennan (Charles Mesure), who has an eye for Carly. She knows she can wrap him around her finger and make any charges against Sonny vanish. But he’s going to want something in return.

Brennan may simply ask Carly for a date or dinner in exchange for helping to exonerate Sonny. Or he may want more. She might become beholden to him, and he could force her to do many things. He may want her to persuade Jason (Steve Burton) to take on missions for him. Or he’ll want her to be his eyes and ears on the ground in town, gathering intel for him as the owner of Bobbie’s Diner, which many people frequent.

As things start pointing to Sonny, Brennan seems like the obvious solution. But in doing so, he may want Sonny to do his bidding, which would make for an interesting story.
