Soap Vet And Home And Family Host Cameron Mathison Reveals Cancer Diagnosis

You’ve loved him for years as a star on All My Children and, currently, as host of the Hallmark Channel’s talk show Home & Family. Now, Cameron Mathison has shared an important health update with his followers.

The Emmy-nominated star announced on Home & Family and his social media accounts that he’s been diagnosed with kidney cancer. He’s set to have surgery on Thursday, September 12.

“About a month ago, I had an MRI for some gut issues I’ve been having, and during that MRI they found a tumor on my right kidney,” Mathison posted. “It’s consistent with Renal Cell Carcinoma…or kidney cancer.”

The actor/host went on to share that the good news is it hasn’t spread to any other organs and that he’s been told his healthy lifestyle and diet has likely played a role in preventing the cancer from growing. “I am extremely lucky that we found it early,” he says.

Mathison says his family — wife, Vanessa, and children Lucas and Leila, his parents, and brother — and everyone at Home & Family, Hallmark and his pals at Entertainment Tonight have been amazing, providing love and support through this challenge. “Feeling very grateful and optimistic!!” he posted.

He asks that he be kept in mind with positive thoughts on Thursday at 1 p.m. PT when he has his surgery. Mathison’s pals from the daytime world have been posting positive comments on his page.

“You’re a true warrior and I love you so much,” wrote Melissa Claire Egan (ex-Annie, AMC; Chelsea, The Young and the Restless). “You’re so amazing to share this too. You are SO LOVED, beyond, and you GOT THIS my friend. Sending love to you and the whole family.”

“Cameron, no doubt you’ll come out on top of this!” wrote Jacob Young (ex-JR, AMC; ex-Rick, The Bold and the Beautiful). “You’re a warrior, a true gift to this world. A hero to so, so many! You will continue to be so. To a speedy recovery my friend! We love you.”

“Your attitude is inspiring,” posted Chrishell Hartley (ex-Amanda, AMC). “Sending you all the love and prayers. You will come out stronger in the end I have no doubts.”

Soap Hub joins Mathison’s family, friends, and colleagues in wishing him a successful surgery, the best possible outcome, and a speedy recovery. Stay tuned for updates as they become available.
