Heartbreaker: Fans Are Crying Over Poor Mike On General Hospital (GH)

For over a decade, General Hospital’s (GH) Mike was out of sight and out of mind, not just for fans, but for Sonny, too.

But now Mike’s back, suffering from Alzheimer’s Disease, and prompting some serious soul-searching in Sonny (Maurice Benard) and Carly (Laura Wright) about how they can best handle the situation as it only gets progressively worse.

But what effect is Mike (Max Gail) having on the audience? Here’s what almost 8,000 viewers had to say:

Fading Away
Watching Mike deteriorate is breaking the hearts of 96% of you. It’s like watching a beloved family member getting sicker and sicker–even if Gail isn’t the Ron Hale you actually watched back when Mike Corinthos actually had a story.

What’s also breaking your heart is that Mike’s tale of dementia has somehow turned into a story about how tragic this all is… for Sonny.

It’s like, when the writers couldn’t come up with a single other character to talk about what a saintly, noble, and morally superior mobster Sonny is, they decided to change tactics slightly, and demonstrate how he suffers. Oh, how he suffers!

And yet, those unreasonable police people just will not cut him any slack. They refuse to step back on hounding a poor, defenseless man whose father is sick. Have they no shame? Have they NO shame?

Just Desserts
Yes, Mike being sick is very sad (though it would have been sadder with Hale, whom you actually had an emotional attachment to), but how upset are you supposed to be about a character you haven’t seen in years, and are pretty sure you won’t see again as soon as his usefulness to Sonny is over?

Maybe if it were Audrey (Rachel Ames) or Monica (Leslie Charleson) or Bobbie (Jaclyn Zeman) – a character who you’ve actually seen interacting with their family lately, you’d feel differently, voice 3%.
