General Hospital star Jon Lindstrom has made quite a career out of soap operas. He first appeared as Mark McCormick on NBC’s Santa Barbara and, almost a decade later, brought Ryan Chamberlain and Kevin Collins to life on GH. Lindstrom brought Kevin to Port Charles in 1997, and in between GH stints, he played Craig Montogomery on As the World Turns. However, it turns out his first speaking role as an actor was on a famed sitcom — or at least a TV movie based on that sitcom.
Jon Lindstrom Looks Back On A Big Small Role
Lindstrom took to Twitter recently to share the first time he ever had lines on-screen, and it was in that classic TV movie, The Facts of Life Go To Paris.
“My 1st on-camera speaking role. Before this, I’d only done an ‘extra’ job to get my SAG card. Once this scene wrapped, they all flew to Paris,” Lindstrom tweeted, along with a video of that scene. I drove home to Hollywood. Casting director was [Eve Brandstein]. Thx Eve!”
In this little 30-second clip, Lindstrom plays a handsome young man in an airport who asks to sit down with the show’s resident prima donna, Blair Warner (Lisa Welchel). He wants to know if the seat next to her is taken, and she quickly tells him that it is while throwing a bag on the chair to make her point. Lindstrom’s character tells her that he is sorry to hear that, and Blair quickly replies that she knows he is.
Natalie Green, played by Mindy Cohn, soon asks Blair if she noticed how handsome Lindstrom’s character was, and Blair admits she did, but she wants to find herself a French boyfriend on their trip to Paris and wasn’t going to give him the time of day.
And with those two lines and that little bit of comedy, Lindstrom made his primetime TV speaking debut before becoming a regular on Baywatch and both a soap hero and villain just a few years later.
