How GH’s Ashley Jones Prepared for Her Son’s Future

Recurring “General Hospital” star Ashley Jones took an important step to ensure her son has the most advanced medical care available if he ever needs it.

Should They or Shouldn’t They?
Jones saved her infant son’s umbilical cord blood upon his birth last month, according to a blog post. However, the decision didn’t come easy.

During her last trimester of pregnancy, the veteran soap actress, and her husband had to make many decisions. One of those was whether to store their baby’s cord blood. Despite doing research, Hayden’s birth arrived, and Jones and her husband still hadn’t decided.

A Final Decision
On the way to the hospital while in labor Jones suddenly knew what she had to do. The actress emailed the cord blood storage company from the car, and they sent over materials to harvest the blood upon Hayden’s birth.

The Benefits of Cord Blood
Umbilical cord blood is one of the body’s richest sources of stem cells, which hold numerous medical benefits, including treating certain cancers. Researchers are also using stem cells to grow organs, which could treat a wide array of medical problems. Perhaps most importantly, cord blood research is on the cutting edge of medical science, with untold benefits yet to come.

Jones plays Parker Forsyth in her latest soap incarnation, Kristina’s (Lexi Ainsworth) professor on “General Hospital.” She also played Bridget Forrester on “The Bold and the Beautiful” and made appearances on both soaps this year.
