With Jason’s memories back, some “General Hospital” fans thinks it only makes sense that he pick up life right where he left off in 2012 as Sonny’s forever enforcer. However, the writers have made it clear that a slightly different Jason has emerged, so odds are you won’t see Jason taking his old job back any time soon.
Yes, he remembers his friendship with Sonny (Maurice Benard), his love for Sam, and everything else Jason Morgan–but remembering might the catalyst that tells him do not go back to that life of crime. Why he may have a taste for danger, what Jason (Billy Miller) told Sonny just before his fateful motorcycle ride last week still stands–he has too much to lose now.
When Jason left Sam (Kelly Monaco) and Danny in their penthouse that night in 2012, he said he’d be safe as “always” but he couldn’t keep that promise. When living a life as a mob enforcer, one shouldn’t even make that promise. But, he’d always come through clandestine meetings on the pier before, so why should that time have been different?
In addition, he couldn’t truly know what he had to lose before. He left Sam and Danny just hours after bringing the baby home with them. He had no sense of what it felt like to have a true family with his wife because it was brand-new.
It was also brand-new for Sam. That is why she accepted that life before, but doesn’t want him to go back to that life now. They both truly know what it’s like to lose everything and they never want to lose it again. The desire to stay safe is a natural evolution of their characters due to what they’ve experienced. We expect to still see their daring and adventurous side. However, if the writers had Jason return to the life he once knew in full, to us, it just wouldn’t work.
