Police commissioner Jordan Ashford lost her marriage but her portrayer, Briana Nicole Henry was honored with a Daytime Emmy nomination this year for her work performances as a law woman and mother who bent the law to bring a baddie to justice.
An Exclusive Chat With Briana Nicole Henry
Daytime Emmy-nominated actors recently gathered in Burbank to pre-tape segments that will air on this year’s Daytime Emmys broadcast. Soap Hub was on the scene and chatted with Henry, decked out in a beautiful dress by Philosophy, about her nod and (gasp!) winning over Aunt Stella (Vernee Watson).
Soap Hub: Congratulations on your nomination!
Briana Nicole Henry: Thank you!
What are the scenes on your reel?
It’s very “Cyrus” [Jeff Kober] heavy. He had kidnapped my son [T.J. played by Tajh Bellow] and I confess to Jason [Steve Burton] and Sonny [Maurice Benard] what had happened to T.J. and then, where I’m lying to Curtis [Donnell Turner] about Taggert [Réal Andrews] being alive.
Jordan did everything for the right reasons but it came at a price.
Yes, it did.
Recently, Aunt Stella told Portia (Brook Kerr) that she didn’t want to interfere in Curtis’s life — and then she went and interfered! She’s finally in Jordan’s corner, it seems.
[Laughs] Finally!
How does that make Jordan feel?
It’s such a dream. First, I grew up watching Vernee. She’s one of the most prolific black actresses in Hollywood. She’s so fierce and it’s something else to be on the side of Stella’s wrath! I’m so happy Stella is #TeamJordan now.
So, there’s hope!
[Smiling] Hope!
Last year’s Daytime Emmys were virtual. How does it feel with so many gathering together to shoot part of the broadcast?
I’m so grateful. Katelyn [MacMullen, Willow] was reminding me that last year it was all virtual. I’m grateful that we got to get dressed up and get together this year!
The 48th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards air on June 25 at 8 p.m. on CBS. The program will also stream on Paramount+ and CBS.com General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
