Bravo to both Alexis and Maxie for telling their murderer and attempted murderer men “so long” on “General Hospital” this week.
Ok, we know it’s not THAT easy and there’s much more drama to come, but these two women learned something they couldn’t live with and did something about it.
While Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn) knew she was marrying a former mobster, she believed “former” was the operative word–or at least she wanted to believe it. She soon learned she had it all wrong and was horrified from the start. She lived in denial for weeks, but once Alexis got the proof that Julian (William deVry) killed Carlos, she knew she couldn’t just brush it aside. Some may call Alexis weak for waffling and not turning in Julian right away, but where would the drama be if she did?
She could also tell at that point Julian had come undone and could be dangerous, so she needed to protect herself. Well, she may no longer have the evidence, but he no longer has his wife. We applauded today when Alexis told Julian he was dead wrong when he thought no matter what, they’d remain together. She said it with conviction and strength, telling us our Alexis is back.
Then, we have Maxie. Sure, Maxie (Kirsten Storms) has told some whopper lies in the past, but she’s changed her ways and wanted to believe she could trust Nathan (Ryan Paevey). She was horrified enough when she learned he never told her of his first wife, but this week she couldn’t believe her ears. She learned her fiance shot at someone in a drunken rage, and when he couldn’t find the victim after passing out, he just kept his secret for years. Sure, Nathan is inherently a good guy (unlike Julian, who is inherently a mobster), but it’s not easy to hear the man you planned to marry committed such a heinous act. After about one night mulling things over, Maxie showed her own strength and showed Nathan the door.
We’re aware Port Charles is a criminal town, and yes, some mobsters are among our favorite characters. However, their wives have decided they can live with such crimes and that’s their decision. In the case of Alexis and Maxie, they have their convictions, and this week they stuck to them. While this is a soap and there are some good odds these women will one day take these men back, for now we offer them high fives on the decisions they made this week.
