We can’t exactly call it homeschooling, as districts across America had to suddenly shut down due to the coronavirus pandemic and find a new way for kids to finish out the school year. In what’s now known as distance learning, kids are using online tools for education, and General Hospital star Scarlett Fernandez learned to have fun with it.
“Happy I still got to present my speech as George Washington today. I even traveled all the way to ‘Mount Vernon'(swipe left),” the fifth-grader (or her parent) posted to Instagram and she is indeed visiting Washington’s home in Mount Vernon, Virginia — at least virtually.
Thanks to the magic of Zoom and its many virtual backgrounds, Fernandez was able to place herself at the plantation home where Washington lived with his family both before and after the Revolutionary War.
Zoom has become a common tool for distance learning across the country, as well as business meetings, and even family social gatherings. Kids have learned to use it to their advantage to keep in touch with friends and teachers during this difficult time. In fact, Fernandez recently used it to tell a story to some of her GH friends, including Ava and Grace Scarola (Avery) and Theo and Erik Olsen (Wiley.)
On-screen, Charlotte may start learning a few lessons of her own as Valentin has decided not to pursue full custody so his daughter is no longer influenced by his nefarious ways. Will it work? Stay tuned to find out. General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
