General Hospital’s Maurice Benard Hosts Kate Grahn On State of Mind

General Hospital star Maurice Benard has been creating some incredible must-see viewing on his State of Mind YouTube show and this week was no exception. He hosted co-star Nancy Lee Grahn’s daughter, singer Kate Grahn, as she opened up about her own battles on his mental health show.

No one can say that Kate’s mom is shy about celebrating the accomplishments of her 22-year-old daughter, and the Daytime Emmy-winning star wanted fans to know about this interview. She alerted her Twitter followers that Kate was a guest on Maurice Benard’s YouTube show, State of Mind.

“So proud of my daughter @kate_grahn who’s worked so hard to manage the challenges of OCD & Tic Disorder & is now, like my friend @MauriceBenard offering up her experiences to de-stigmatize & raise awareness about mental health in hopes of helping others,” she wrote.

On the official State of Mind Instagram page, run by Benard, the actor offers a brief description of what the episode entails.

“Kate talks with me about her music, living with OCD and managing intrusive thoughts plus overcoming a period of self-harm,” he wrote. “Kate pulls from her life experiences in her singing & songwriting. Her debut EP ‘Ragdoll’ is available now and she performs the first song ‘Untangling’ for us.”

In the episode, Benard asks Kate when she first started to feel the effects of OCD and she told him she was first diagnosed at the age of 8.

“Because I got diagnosed so early, and I did clinical trials at UCLA, which I am so grateful for because they helped me so much, I started working on my mental health and working on myself as a human being really young,” she answered. “And I learned coping mechanisms and I learned how to articulate my feelings. I took those and it helped my disorder, but also helped me become a well-rounded person.”

In the episode, Kate talks about overcoming a period where she was self-harming and revealed the struggles she had with confidence. She also talks about how she’s always been shy, but loved singing and learned to enjoy performing, and that’s helped her take some risks in life. The budding musician talked about her music career and her process for writing songs and her new album.
