Eden McCoy is a favorite among General Hospital fans for her portrayal of Carly’s (Laura Wright) daughter, Josslyn, but the actress had the rare chance to step into the shoes of another beloved character on the show last week—her onscreen mom!
Eden McCoy: Central Perk Girl
TV Insider recently spoke with McCoy about the special episode, set in the ’90s when Carly was a teen, which aired on April 8 and April 9. The episodes explored Carly’s relationship with her adoptive parents, as well as her first meeting with Nelle.
She said not only did she love playing a younger version of Carly but thanks to the fashion and hair choices of the design team, McCoy was able to live out a dream of being made up in the mold of the popular Friends trio of Courtney Cox, Jennifer Aniston, and Lisa Kudrow.
“All the departments — hair, makeup, wardrobe, everyone — did a phenomenal job,” McCoy shared with TV Insider. “I had three looks in this episode and they were named ‘Monica,’ ‘Rachel,’ and ‘Phoebe.’ I’m such a Friends fan! I was in my element. The writing was super-good, amazing. Everybody delivered!”
Of course, while she may have looked like everyone’s favorite Central Perk customers, the real goal was to emulate Carly—something McCoy did to—as Chandler Bing might say, “perfection.”
“It was definitely easier and there was less pressure than if they had hired someone to come in [who didn’t know the show],” McCoy said. “I grew up alongside Laura and watched her work. As a young kid, you inherit traits from people around you.
“That’s how we all emulate our own parents. It’s the same concept for me [as an actress]. I emulate Laura as Eden and Carly as Eden. It’s not necessarily on purpose. It was more like a fun, experimental experience.” General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
