There are a plethora of loose threads in the General Hospital baby switch story that it can end any number of ways. But the one thing we do know at this point is it needs to end, and fast.
Wiley/Jonah is approaching his first birthday and we don’t think we can take much more of this. From Michael (Chad Duell) mourning a child he gets to hold on a regular basis to Willow (Katelyn MacMullen) not ever getting a chance to mourn her child, this story becomes more frustrating and heartbreaking by the minute.
Of course, a good soap story SHOULD do that, but writers also need to know when a story has run its course and this one certainly has. So how will it end? Oh, let us count the ways.
First, there’s the easy solution presented to us on Monday. Shiloh (Coby Ryan McLaughlin) swiped a blankie belonging to Wiley that his teething self was salivating all over. (How sick did that baby look and why was her on-camera?) Oh, the DNA test that can easily prove Shiloh is not Wiley’s father. How simple.
Except, it can’t be THAT simple. DNA tests have to go to labs and somehow lab technician Brad (Parry Shen) could find a way to switch the tests… even if Shiloh takes the blanket to a different lab. (Brad is sneaky that way.)
Yes, it would give Shiloh the proof he needs to claim Wiley as his, but Brad might find that to be more desirable than Lucas finding out the original Wiley died and he replaced him with Michael’s baby, letting Michael be the second baby’s godfather while letting him mourn his son who is not dead. So, the DNA test may not do it.
Then, we have Willow’s mother who thinks she has a grandson out there in the same cell as Nelle (Chloe Lanier) over in Pentonville. That has to come into play somewhere right. Shiloh might tell Harmony (Inga Cadranel) he thinks he found his son and where he is.
Then, Nelle could start rambling one night and reveal she gave her baby to the same man Shiloh claims has his son. Harmony puts two and two together, finds some sanity and a heart, and informs her daughter that her baby is dead. Hmmm…Possible.
And let’s not forget …continue reading on the next page —>
And let’s not forget Liesl Obrecht (Kathleen Gati). She’s a woman with many secrets and she’s been keeping this one until the time is just right.
Perhaps Brad does exactly what we suspect — change the DNA test results. Then, what if the judge by some miracle rules against Shiloh? What if Shiloh then kidnaps Wiley and Liesl gets wind of what’s going on because it’s all over the news?
She could also find a heart because this is a child with a cult leader who thinks is his father and she can at least convince Nelle to reveal the truth. There has to be SOME reason Liesl’s known all along, right?
When a story has this many layers, anything can happen. Except something has to happen already and it needs to have Nelle telling the whole tale in a way only Nelle can. Then, Willow can truly mourn. And finally, Michael can hold his son for the baby’s birthday and give us all the feels. General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
