After a violent sexual encounter, an assassin dodging, on-the-run caper served to bring the duo closer together and newlywed Laura seriously considered ending her marriage to Scotty so that she and Luke could take the plunge.
A Man of Many Talents
Luke was a man of many talents and skills that he parlayed into a number of successful careers. He owned an eponymous night club and The Haunted Star, co-owned Kelly’s Diner and served a term as Mayor of Port Charles. But it is, of course, being a world-traveling adventurer for which Luke is most known.
Make that world-saving adventurer. In 1980 Luke foiled the plot of Mikkos Cassadine, a multi-millionaire with delusions of grandeur and a God complex, who planned to hold the world to ransom with his specially-designed weather-controlling machine.
Interruptions
Luke’s reward for saving Port Charles – which Mikkos had used as a testing ground for the machine’s capabilities – was a lavish wedding thrown for him and Laura. While the ceremony went off without a hitch, the reception was marred by Scotty’s appearance and a curse placed on the newlyweds by a festivity-viewing Helena Cassadine.

Female Trouble
Although Laura held the key to Luke’s heart for many years, that doesn’t mean he never dallied with another woman. When Laura was presumed dead – having really been spirited away to Cassadine Island – Luke flirted with reporter Jackie Templeton and found love again with British beauty Holly Sutton, whom he encountered skinny dipping in a lake (how’s that for a first meeting?).
Luke would lose Holly to his best friend, Robert Scorpio, but the loss was also his gain when a very much alive Laura re-entered his life. The two would exit Port Charles, for a time, and in the ensuing years welcome two children: Lucas Lorenzo “Lucky” Spencer junior and Lesly Lu (Lulu).
In the end, the Spencers would part, permanently, and find contentment with other partners. She with Kevin Collins and Luke with Quartermaine heiress Tracy, with whom he is currently living overseas.
