Former General Hospital co-stars Rebecca Budig and Michael Easton teamed up recently to present a compelling story so many women can relate to and are now receiving accolades for their efforts.
The film, About A Girl, was directed by Easton and written by Budig, who also stars in the short flick telling the tale of a woman battling postpartum depression. About A Girl, which also stars fellow soap alum Sherri Saum and Trevor St. John (who both worked with Easton on One Life to Live), recently picked up an Outstanding Achievement Award from The Best Shorts Competition.
“I am so humbled and honored to be included and awarded by @bestshorts and thank everyone involved,” Budig tweeted.
The actress is much-missed on General Hospital after making a brief return last year to the role of Hayden Barnes. She arrived in town without the baby we expected her to have, but then learned that baby was SORAS’d off-screen and we finally met the adorable Violet (Jophielle Love), who she then left in Daddy Finn’s care after Nikolas made her feel her life was in danger.
We hope to see her return again soon as Easton and Budig made for as popular pair as Finn and Hayden. Currently, Finn is still engaged to Anna as she helps him raise Violet.
GH made its debut on April 1, 1963 and is the second longest-running daytime soap opera in American history. The longest-running sudser is Guiding Light. While it’s not the longest-running sudser, GH is the longest-running soap opera currently on air.
The soap exploded into mainstream media in the early 1980s due to the show’s immense popularity. Daytime Emmy winners Genie Francis (Laura) and Anthony Geary (ex-Luke) appeared on the covers of Newsweek and People magazines. Created by Frank and Doris Hursley, the show is currently helmed by executive producer Frank Valentini and is head written by Chris Van Etten and Dan O’Connor. The Corinthos, Quartermaine, Baldwin, Collins, Jerome, and Ashford families drive stories today in the show’s fictional hamlet, Port Charles.
GH has won the Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Drama Series a record 13 times — more than any other soap opera. GH airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for air times.
