General Hospital fans knew there was something about Anna that wasn’t quite right the moment she got back from that fact-finding mission to learn what happened all those years ago with Valentin.
It turns out we weren’t the only ones. Of course, Finola Hughes knew she was playing Alex, the character she created on All My Children way back in 1999, but nobody else on the GH set knew.
In fact, Hughes was sworn to absolute secrecy.
“It has been really interesting to watch the actors’ faces fall as they’ve been informed that they were actually performing with somebody else,” Hughes told Soap Opera Digest.
“Most of them were like, ‘I thought that there was something weird! I thought that there was something off!’”
After all, cancer-ridden ‘Anna’ was missing her doctor appointments, acting on edge, becoming friendlier with Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) than anyone expected, and blowing off friends she’d always want to see.
The actress admits it was a bit daunting stepping back into a character she hadn’t played in years, admitting: “I could probably have had more fun with it, but it came with a lot of anxiety.”
Does ‘had’ mean that Alex is off the canvas soon and the actress has finished recreating the role? We guess we’ll have to tune in to find out…
