Daytime legend and one of half of General Hospital (GH) pioneering supercouple has quite a day today. Tony Geary is celebrating his birthday, and is likely doing so where he’s happiest, in his adopted home city of Amsterdam.
Geary was born on May 29, 1947 in Coalville, UT, which means he turns 71 years old today. The actor got his start on start on soaps in his early 20s on the daytime drama, Bright Promise.
That gig lasted a year and he soon landed guest roles on several primetime series, including All In The Family, The Mod Squad, Mannix, and Barnaby Jones.
He made his way back to soaps with The Young and the Restless, but by 1978 he landed the role of Lucas Lorenzo Spencer on General Hospital, a character that would bring him to the height of daytime fame.
Geary spent the next 37 years on and off GH, but mostly on and even played Luke’s lookalike cousin, Bill Eckert. He also earned five Daytime Emmys for his GH work.
The iconic actor chose to leave the soap and the United States in 2015 and moved to Amsterdam, where he’s had a second home for years.
Although he made a brief one scene appearance on GH last year on a trip back to the States, Amsterdam is where he now considers home.
Soap Hub wishes Geary the happiest of birthdays and many more.
General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
