As Sean on General Hospital, Sean Blakemore got away with a lot before going off to jail! Now, he’s landed a role in a pilot created by Pete Nowalk, creator of How To Get Away With Murder!
Sean Blakemore Goes Primetime
According to Deadline, Blakemore has been cast in Close Up, an hourlong suspense drama currently filming in Vancouver.
Close Up is set in the suburban town of Centerville, New Jersey, and focuses on a high school student named Rachel Guyer (Fivel Stewart) who seeks out to tell the truth about the people in her hometown.
Rachel is described as a “natural leader whose ends are as honorable as her means are questionable. Her righteous indignation serves as both her greatest strength and her greatest weakness.” Blakemore will play Sheriff Griff, who is torn between his obligation to upholding the law and the duty he feels towards Centerville.
Blakemore played the role of GH’s Shawn from 2011 to 2015, reprising the role briefly in 2016. The actor won the Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series in 2016 for his work in Port Charles.
Shawn Behind Bars
Shawn was part of Sonny’s (Maurice Benard) team and took on the assignment to take out Jake Doe (played by Billy Miller, the man, who was ultimately revealed as Jason and then Drew). Sean missed his shot, accidentally hitting Hayden (Rebecca Budig) instead. Rather than take a plea deal which included ratting out Sonny, Sean went to Pentonville to pay for his crime.
Of course, it turned out that’s not what really happened and many GH fans wonder why Shawn is still in jail.
Since leaving GH, Sean Blakemore has worked non-stop as a guest star or series regular on Devious Maids, American Crime, The Quad, Saints & Sinners, American Horror Story, Lethal Weapon, and Greenleaf. No word yet on when Close Up will be picked up as a series. (The show has to finish production first!) Word could come down next May when the networks announce their new lineups.
Soap Hub will bring news on the show’s future and what’s next for Blakemore as details become available. General Hospital airs weekdays on ABC. Check local listings for air times.
