As Detective Nathan West on General Hospital (GH), the only “jewelry” Ryan Paevey is familiar with are handcuffs. Off-screen, the actor brought his custom stone necklace-making skills to today’s episode of Home & Family on the Hallmark Channel.
“I’ve been doing this for a little over a year,” Paevey tells Soap Hub. “In fact, the week I launched the site, FortunateWanderer, I was here [at Home & Family] talking about it.”
If you’re someone concerned that the gemstones might be abrasive on your skin, then Paevey’s products are the ones for you.
“I do a significant amount of polishing and sanding to the back of a stone so there’s no possibility of that happening,” he says. “I”m kind of a perfectionist that way. I don’t want someone to wear [something I’ve made] and then have the stone fall out!
“I have no idea how this came into my life,” he shrugs of this endeavor. “I know I wanted another creative avenue and this came out of left field. When it did, I started binge-watching YouTube videos on how to do this.”
When choosing a gemstone, Paevey recommends selecting ones you feel that you may have a connection to — like your birthstone. “It’s an individual choice,” he says. “If you believe a stone has a personal significance to you, then choose that.”
Veteran GH fans might also recognize the show’s musical guest — Dave Koz, who composed the jazzy GH opening theme that debuted in 1993.
