Lucas is off-screen recovering from injuries he sustained in a car wreck on General Hospital, but in real-life, his portrayer, Ryan Carnes, took advantage of having a little downtime to do some philanthropic work. Let him tell you about it in his own words.
“I took a trip down to Tijuana yesterday with @thisisabouthumanity,” Carnes posted on Instagram. “It was equal parts eye-opening, shocking, soul-crushing, heartening, rewarding, fulfilling, and deeply moving.
“I am profoundly affected by what I saw, heard, experienced, and felt. Many of us could never imagine what it’s like to walk in another’s shoes, particularly when that ‘other’ has no shoes to begin with, whether metaphorical or literal.
“Yesterday brought us all who went just a little bit closer to being able to understand the humanitarian crisis that is taking place for asylum seekers who are fleeing horrific, abominable situations that you would have to hear to believe — and even then would not WANT to believe,” the actor continued.
“Some of these humans and their children have been through more trauma and violence than one person should be exposed to in a hundred lifetimes, let alone 1.
“We laughed, we listened, we cried, we cheered,” Carnes shared. “We painted and played, we held and hugged, children who live in tents with their entire families — families whose lives have been forever altered by unfathomable violence, trauma, and abject poverty. The organization that facilitated this trip and facilitates others like it is a true miracle for these families.”
Carnes noted that this isn’t a political issue — nor should it be. “This isn’t about language, who you voted for, or any other politicized issue,” he said. “This is simply about making the world a better place and taking care of our fellow brothers and sisters. This is quite simply… About Humanity.
