General Hospital Star Roger Howarth Celebrates His Birthday

Franco Baldwin may be struggling with his identity now that he possesses the memories of another man — Chief Petty Officer Andrew Cain — but actor Roger Howarth certainly has a reason to celebrate.

That’s because he was born on September 13, 1968, in Westchester County, New York, which means that this talented performer is turning 51 years old today! His father was an actor and play write so it’s no surprise that Howarth showed an interest in performing from a very early age. In fact, he made his stage debut when he was only seven.

Howarth studied political science at George Washington University for a semester but he later dropped out and joined the prestigious Eugene O’Neill Theatre Center in Connecticut.

His first television gig was an understudy at As the World Turns and he had a small role on Guiding Light at the same time as his future leading lady Kassie DePaiva. In 1991, Howarth won a nationwide talent search held by ABC Daytime and landed the role of Kent Winslow on the half-hour sudser Loving.

One year later he was cast on another ABS soap opera, this time One Life to Live. As Todd Manning, Howarth was at the center of a controversial gang rape and subsequent trial. Despite his character originally being planned for a short term story arc, he wound up starring on the series — on and off — until 2003.

During his tenure at OLTL, Howarth also appeared in four episodes of the science fiction procedural Prey and he made his Broadway debut in the White Rose. He also starred in the Great White Way’s production of The Lion in Winter.

In 2003, Howarth joined the cast of another daytime serial. This time he was cast as Paul Ryan a legacy character on CBS’ As the World Turns. He remained there until the shows demise seven years later.

Howarth made a triumphant return to OLTL in 2011 and remained until that series ended in 2012. He reprised the role of Todd Manning on both General Hospital (GH) and the Online Network’s continuation of OLTL. Since May of 2013 Howarth has played Franco Baldwin on GH.

Soap Hub would like to wish Roger Howarth a very happy birthday and many more to come. General Hospital airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
