Fan favorite John J. York was an instant hit when he debuted on General Hospital in 1991. The handsome actor was cast as Robert Scorpio’s younger brother Malcolm “Mac” Scorpio and has been a mainstay in Port Charles ever since. And now he has something big to celebrate!
That’s because York was born on December 10, 1958, in Chicago, Illinois, which means that he turned 60 years old yesterday!
The amicable actor joined GH after legendary producer Gloria Monty returned to the soap. Mac and Robert (Tristan Rogers) were initially at odds, but Mac stepped up when he helped raise Robin (Kimberly McCullough) after Robert and Anna (Finola Hughes) were presumed dead.
He’s had many romances over the years, but Mac’s most enduring relationship has been with Felicia (Kristina Wagner).
York has been wed to Vicki Manners since 1986. The couple has a daughter, Schyler and a brand-new grandson.
He worked regularly in primetime television in the 1980s on such series as Hotel, Family Ties, Newhart, and Hunter.
In 1987, York landed the title role in the Fox drama Werewolf on which he played Eric Cord, a young man who fought to free himself from the curse of being a werewolf!
Then, much to the joy of GH fans, York landed in daytime! He’s brought likable Mac to GH spinoffs Port Charles and General Hospital: Night Shift.
For years, Frisco (Jack Wagner) always stood between Mac and Felicia. At the 2013 Nurses Ball, despite being serenaded by Frisco, who was hoping for a reunion, Felicia decided to choose Mac, much to the delight of York fans everywhere!
