Hudson West is going back in time. No, General Hospital isn’t doing a time jump story, but the young actor has a role in the Showtime series Penny Dreadful: City of Angels, which is set in Los Angeles decades ago.

The actor who brings Jake Webber to life will play Trevor Craft, son of Peter (Rory Kinnear) and Linda Craft (Piper Perabo). A murder acts as the catalyst for much of the series’ story.
“The most important thing to remember about this show is, although it’s set in 1938, it’s about 2020,” executive producer John Logan recently told TV critics at the winter press tour in Pasadena, Calif.
“Looking over the world landscape now, I’m struck by parallels to the late ’30s and what’s going on now, particularly the rise of extremist political hatred, of a sort of racist demagoguery that is taken for granted, by the pernicious influence in the danger of a foreign power in our electoral process, in our communication, and particularly by the marginalization and victimization of an ethnic community.”
Logan was drawn to this particular year (1938) that the show is set in because he feels the structure of the city matches much of what Los Angeles is today. “I love the late ’30s,” he adds. “There’s a certain patina and panache to design at that area as we’re sort of moving out of Art Deco into industrialism that was sort of fun to keep exploring.”
Viewers won’t need to have seen the previous series, Penny Dreadful, to jump on board this show. “This is a new story with new characters,” Logan says,”…it’s a new cast and a completely new landscape.” Penny Dreadful: City of Angels debuts on Showtime on Sunday, April 26, 2020. General Hospital airs weekdays on ABC. Check local listings for air times.
