When news of Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek’s passing broke on Sunday, so many of us remembered moments from this knowledgeable, kind, and intelligent man. For General Hospital star, Hayley Erin, that moment involved Trebek giving her one of her most prized possessions.
It was just last year in 2019 when Erin took home the Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Younger Actress in a Drama Series for her role as Kiki Jerome on GH. And it was Trebek who announced her name that night and presented her with the award.
Erin recalled the moment on social media soon after learning Trebek had died of cancer at the age of 80.
“‘OH MY GOD, IT’S ALEX TREBEK’ I’ll never get over the fact I got to share this moment with my hero. Thank you for sharing your joy of knowledge with the world, and never holding back a good quip. Anyone who knows me knows how much I love Alex Trebek,” she said.
Trebek also took home a Daytime Emmy that year, as he took one home this year, as well. Of course this year, the Emmys were at home and broadcast virtually due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Since winning her Emmy, Erin finished work on the Freeform series, Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionist. She also got married this fall and enjoyed a glorious honeymoon in Ireland. And like so many of us, she enjoyed the knowledge and information Trebek would leave us with every evening for decades as the Jeopardy! host. She was surely in good company when she expressed her love and admiration for Trebek on that Emmy stage.
