General Hospital fans were saddened and stunned upon learning Emme Rylan would be leaving the show and were even more shocked when her character, Lulu Spencer Falconeri, fell into a coma she may never recover from.
A Word From Emme Rylan
Lulu’s loved ones said goodbye when she was shipped off to a long-term care facility and Rylan said goodbye to her L.A. home, packing up her partner and three young children to see where the next adventure takes them.
Now, she’s speaking out about what really happened and if there’s a chance she might return. A fan posted about her exit to Instagram and Rylan responded with an explanation.
“I was told that I was being taken off contract and that the character was being put into a coma,” Rylan wrote. “I wasn’t informed about anything else. If they invite me back, I would DEFINITELY come back. I love my GH family.”
Another fan found Rylan’s comment and posted a screenshot of it to Twitter, which you can see embedded below.
Rylan got her start in daytime under the name Marcy Rylan, playing Lizzie Spaulding on Guiding Light, before taking over the role of Abby Newman on The Young and the Restless. In 2013, she began playing legacy character Lulu, daughter of mega-supercouple Luke and Laura.
Her departure came as a big surprise as Lulu’s story was just heating up with the return of Dominic Zamprogna as Dante, Lulu’s ex-husband, just as things were getting serious in her new romance with Dustin Phillips (Mark Lawson). Sadly, the explosion at The Floating Rib killed poor Dustin and put Lulu in a coma after her brain swelled without her realizing it. General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC.
