It was never more apparent than yesterday that Nelle might not have become the albatross on Port Charles that she is if General Hospital (GH) had just gotten her out of Michael’s orbit.
We thought it might happen when Nelle got two different jobs working for Nina and then even teamed up with Ava as her art gallery assistant.
Michael had broken up with her, she was moving on – or so we thought. And then the show had to write a pregnancy in for some bizarre reason that put her right back where she started – manipulating Michael, Carly, and Sonny.
Nelle was written into a corner and paired with a character she had no chemistry with from the start. And NONE of this is the fault of the performers. They play what’s written and what was written for nearly two years was almost a crime for an actress like Chloe Lanier.
She proved her worth when she played young Pat Spencer in 2015 when Luke remembered he killed both of his parents. She made such an impression that Nelle was even created just for her. And, as Soap Hub has already said, the soap blew it.
If Nelle was never pregnant, if Nelle had stayed away from the Corinthos clan after her “secret” was revealed, Nelle could have eventually been paired with Chase without a pregnancy to get in the way, and without Lanier on her way out the door.
When Chase begged Nelle to leave Michael yesterday, we could see that something just worked with Lanier and Josh Swickard. Yes, Chase was playing her, but that didn’t get in the way of the chemistry and tension we could feel between them. And it was something we never saw with Lanier and Chad Duell.
This feels like the one that got away for us, and that’s a shame.
